4th grade Social Studies Lesson on the Trail of Tears
Beginning in 1838 the United States Government forced 17,000 Cherokee Indians to move from their homes in the Southeastern United States to Oklahoma. During their travels they experienced many hardships including racism and harsh weather. When they finally arrived in Oklahoma after a 100 day journey over 4,000 Cherokee Indians had died on the trip which has become known as the Trail of Tears.
